Mealtime on Mitchell Lake: The Shallamar Diner

Famed aerial photographer Harry S. Oakman took this image of the Shallamar Diner around 1969. Operated by Ted and Wally Polomski in the late 1960s, Shallamar incorporated a grocery store; a restaurant; a dance hall; and even a Ski-doo snowmobile dealership under one roof, with a Texaco gas station out front. Located on Mitchell Lake east of Kirkfield, Shallamar continues to pump gas and serve hot breakfasts to travellers making their way along Highway 48.
