Built not long after the Second World War, this abandoned two-storey wooden Shell gas station stood well into the first two decades of the twenty-first century. Operated by the Callan family during the 1950s, this Coboconk landmark served millions of tourists travelling north or south along Highway 35, or east and west along Highway 46-turned-Highway 48. Changes in both the gas station industry and in automotive technology rendered many of these facilities obsolete by the 1980s and 1990s.
