Ready to Hit the Road Again With Full Stomachs, Courtesy of Kirkfield’s Alexander Restaurant
Kirkfield & District Historical Society Collection (accession no. 2020.FIC.65)
Date: mid-1950s
The Alexander Restaurant, pictured here in the mid-1950s, was located just west of downtown Kirkfield and served both locals and tourists making their way east and west along Highway 46. It was later called The Green Beret, and was operated by Henry and Jeanne Battah, who came to Kirkfield from an Acadian community in New Brunswick. Doreen Davis oversaw The Green Beret for a few years thereafter. When it closed around 2020, it was known simply as the Kirkfield Restaurant.
