Homemade Baking In Rosedale: Alta Oliver and Her Famous Pies

Carolyn Harrison Collection
Date: ca. 1940s
Alta Oliver, whose husband operated a well-patronized service station in Rosedale, was famous for her homemade pies. Granddaughter Linda Oliver remembers: “Grandma baked pies and sold them to tourists from the gas station. It became a routine stop for many travelling north, and if you didn’t get there early, you would be disappointed that she sold out! (Grandma was a fabulous cook, and pies was one of her specialties. The secret – lard in the pastry!).”
