“Choo, Choo!” Sounding the Whistle in Coboconk

Maryboro Lodge: The Fenelon Museum Collection (accession no. 021.2.24)
Date: September 29, 1956
By the mid-1950s, railway passenger service had become little more than a tourist attraction. No. 2644, one of the Canadian National Railway’s N-4-a class of locomotives built in 1908, hauled the final steam-powered excursion train into Coboconk on September 29, 1956. The locomotive would be scrapped a few years later, and the tracks removed in 1965.
