When Balsam Lake Provincial Park opened in 1967, Highway 46 was re-routed around the park. A Texaco gas station immediately west of the park boundary began serving customers at about the same time, and continues to operate seasonally as part of the Balsam Lake Park Store. The still-operable 1960s-vintage Wayne gas pump gives this roadside business a definitively nostalgic ambiance.
