“Ahoy, There!” The Stoney Lake Passes Through the Kirkfield Lift Lock
Kirkfield & District Historical Society Collection (accession no. 2021.FIC.31)
Date: ca. 1907
This Edwardian-era postcard depicts the Stoney Lake being locked through the Kirkfield Lift Lock not long after it opened for traffic in 1907. Launched in 1904, the Stoney Lake enjoyed a forty-year career on the Kawartha lakes before being sold to Captain Ross W. Carnegie in 1944. It was renamed the Island Queen and sailed on the St. Lawrence River until being scrapped in 1972.
