Decorative Silver Box with a Salmon on the Lid

At Estevan Lodge, salmon was a staple. It was often served for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It was not only found on the dinner plate. Salmon also decorated the house, found on large painted panels in the dining room and in decorative objects around the house.

One of these objects was given to Robert William Reford by his grandmother Elsie Reford. Made of silver, with a gold interior, the box has a salmon etched in glass on the top cover. Its maker is unknown. As is its use. It was a treasured object that Robert William Reford donated to the Gardens many years later.
