Baking bannock on a wood stove in a camp on the territory.
Bannock is a flat bread without yeast. Many Indigenous people cook it. At its simplest, it contains flour, water, salt and baking powder. Ingredients such as raisins, brown sugar, moose meat, fish eggs, beaver blood and blueberries can be added. There are both savoury and sweet versions. It can be cooked in different ways, for example, in the oven, in the frying pan, on the fire or fried in oil.
