Did you know? Until the 19th century, the Iroquois (called Nadowek in anicinabemowin) came from the south up the rivers to steal the furs from the Anicinabek and thus control the trade. Place names in Abitibi bear witness to this history: Nadowe Atik, near Grand-Lac-Victoria, or the Bell River at Senneterre, which is called the Nottaway River or Nadowé, in anicinabemowin.
