One of the first wedding to be performed at Lac Simon was the one of Grey Owl and Anahareo, a young Mohawk woman. The ceremony was conducted by the chief of the time, Nias Papatie. It was only after his death that the general public discovered that the author of Grey Owl, known for his defense of nature and the Indigenous way of life, was an Englishman by the name of Archibald Belaney who had invented his Indigenous identity.
