Bugle
Collection of Moose Jaw Museum & Art Gallery
brass, metal, fabric rope, 18.0 x 30.3 x 9.7 cm, First World War
Soldiers often carved the names of significant battles into their possessions or kit. This bugle was used by a young man, Richard Mills, who signed up for the First World War in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan when he was sixteen years old. Private Mills carried this bugle during the battles of Vimy Ridge, Lens, Hill 70, Passchendaele and Arras. These are battles that hold great significance to Canada and engraving their names into objects like this bugle made souvenirs so that these battles would not be forgotten.
