John Colwell was a navigator in the Royal Canadian Air Force, and he spent nearly three years in a Prisoner of War camp in Germany. He was known for being able to make almost anything, including clocks, from material found here and there in the camp. But only his plans and drawings, recorded in his diary and kept in a register distributed by the YMCA, survived the war.
