This sweater belonged to Roy Cameron Austin who was a 21 year old clerk from Calgary, Alberta when he enlisted in 1915. Private Austin was shot and captured on September29, 1916, and he spent the rest of the war in a German prisoner of war camp. This sweater was made for him by Robert Kelly, an Australian soldier and prisoner in the same camp. He used the wool from worn out army socks collected around the camp.
