Vase
Collection of the Lieutenant Colonel D.V. Currie VC Armoury, Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan
brass, 34.7 x 8.5 cm, First World War
This vase belonged to Albert Leitch, who was living in Minnesota when he joined the American Expeditionary Force in the First World War. After the War, he immigrated to Canada, taking out a homestead in 1921 near Shamrock, Saskatchewan. During the Second World War, he served in the Veterans Guard of Canada guarding German prisoners of war at numerous camps in Alberta and Ontario. His daughter, Lorraine, donated this vase to the Moose Jaw armouries to commemorate their family’s military service. She served during the Second World War in the Canadian Women’s Army Corps, and her brother, Sanford, was in the Royal Canadian Air Force.
