On the evening of October 25, 1995, it was the “Yes” side’s turn to take over the Verdun Auditorium to motivate its supporters one last time before voting day. Over 10,000 sovereigntist supporters turned out for this rally. The slim lead of the “Yes” side in the latest polls put the crowd in a jubilant mood. Lucien Bouchard, spokesman for the sovereigntist side, declared to the supporters: “The day after October 30, when we wake up, we will be a nation, and we will have given Mr. Parizeau and his government the mandate to make our country of Québec a sovereign nation.”
