At our place, we did shoes for children who go to school.  Us, we’d build them rubber shoes; they were spongy.  They were for children, so they were soft.  When we joined the war, the government took all the rubber and us, you know, that was all we used.  The people who made men’s in Montréal and Québec, it’s those guys that got all the war contracts.
