Modules

Gilles Tétreault is seated on a leather couch in his living room.  He tells us that moving to a module system proved difficult for many employees.

Transcript:

They got around, the bosses.  So, they went over to Japan and those guys, they had a different system.  Those guys, they used a circle, with 8 people around the circle.  The shoe would start here and go around the circle.  And when it came back, it was done.  And it was done really well for sure.  The trouble was though that it wasn’t them, the employees, who’d chosen to be together.  We had a girl from Sorel, one from St-Antoine, two from Contrecœur, it was all over the place.  Plus they weren’t girls that spoke to each other all that much because, since they had a spot on the (production) line, they had friends, just not the ones that were around them.  Now, you’d have to pass the shoe from person to person.  But the girls that worked standing, they didn’t like it much.  It was hard on the women who were older.  They’d worked there all their lives.
