Yvon Deschamps was born in Montreal on July 31, 1935.
In an interview for La Butte à Mathieu exhibition in 2021, he recounted:
“I must have been there a little bit every year for seven, eight, maybe ten years. First, my wife at the time, Mirielle Lachance, was doing Raymond Lévesque’s shows. After that, I accompanied Léveillée on drums and accordion, and Claude Gauthier and Jacques Blanchet, so I was there at the same time as them. By myself, being myself (laughs), I think it must have been in 1970-71. Already, the Théâtre Le Patriote was taking up more time, we were spending two weeks at Le Patriote and two weeks at La Butte. It got the summer going, so to speak (laughs).
The era of the boîte à chansons represented an important time for us, very important. Because it’s really the awakening not only of nationalism, but also of culture. That’s where our identity was formed.”
