This is an excerpt of a song describing the various farm activities. It was written by Sister Rita Fortin (Louis-Joseph), for the 25th anniversary of the Sisters’ residence at Saint-Joseph farm (1954-1979).
Song title: Personal message… from the farm:
…
5- In your big thankful heart,
Remember the beginnings,
Where we had to work hard
Dawn to dusk to succeed.
Eggs, grain and the “routine”
Cattle slaughter, haying,
Poultry slaughter, the big garden,
And finally, the joys of harvest.
6- Request to Claire and Simone
Our ever-ready farmers,
As they carried out men’s labour
In the cold of winter and in the sun.
Also ask Mother Bursar,
Who had seen all manner of things
Since our farm was, all in all,
A beautiful, fertile piece of land.
7- The barn. The cowshed, the henhouse,
Were familiar things to them.
Cows, hens, oxen and calves,
Part of their past lives,
Little piglets nursing
Little chicks, fatty and round
If they grew, if they thrived,
We give thanks to our farming Sisters
