Let’s Empty the Traps

Georges-Henri Lizotte makes the rounds of his traps to collect any eels that have been caught.

Mr. Lizotte opens the collecting box of an eel trap by sliding the lid on top of it towards him.

[Narrator] Georges-Henri Lizotte removes the sliding lid of the collecting box of an eel trap.

He is standing inside the collecting box. He uses a saillebarde to remove the eels that are at the bottom. He hands the saillebarde containing several eels to a women outside the box. She empties them into a trailer. They repeat the operation.

He literally climbs into the box and clears away any seaweed accumulated in it. He uses a saillebarde to remove the eels.
Tongs and grappling hooks have not been used for many years. These tools injured the fish. The eels are placed in an enclosed trailer and will be transported to the shed that contains the holding tanks.

Mr. Lizotte climbs out of the collecting box. He and the woman look inside the trailer. It contains a large number of eels

Mr. Lizotte returns to the collecting box, closes the lid and locks it.
