Snowshoes Made of Babiche

A pair of handcrafted snowshoes with a wooden frame and webbing made of babiche (strips of leather).

Indigenous used eel skin to make babiche, or the strips of material that were twisted together to make the webbing of snowshoes. Babiche was also made from the green hide of land animals.
