The Gouin dam and its log chute

Construction of the Gouin dam began in September 1916. It was a huge undertaking at the time, and was completed in December 1917. At the time it was commissioned, it was the biggest construction project ever completed in Quebec and it created the largest reservoir in the world.

Still today, 100 years later, it is known as the guardian of the Rivière Saint-Maurice.
