“On this photo, Mr. Roosevelt poses proudly with his guide and his hunting trophy. He is pictured with his Springfield 6000 rifle; President Roosevelt hunted big game on three different continents.
Theodore Roosevelt was definitely one of our most famous guests. In 1915, President Roosevelt came for a hunting expedition on Club Tourilli (Triton) territory. He took the train all the way to Saint-Raymond, then rode by horseback to Grosse Lodge. He ate at the same table as his guides and conversed with them over meals.
On the morning of September 19, President Roosevelt, accompanied by his guides Arthur Lirette and Odilon Genest, headed off in the direction of lac Croche, on the lookout for moose. President Roosevelt was a heavy, but energetic man, who was capable of keeping up his guides with ease.
However, this hunting trip will give him a fright when a moose loads him and his guides. Roosevelt barely got away with it by finally succeeding in killing the animal. To learn more about this adventure (this link is external, in French only): Roosevelt au Triton .
