St-Maurice Fish and Game Club
Société Historique de La Tuque et du Haut-St-Maurice, La Tuque, circa 1910, Funds Lucien Dallaire
“This private club was built in 1888, even before the City of La Tuque was founded. The prestigious club was founded by Dr. William H. Drummond. Already in 1888, the annual membership was $125.
He would welcome members after a ride on the 68-foot steamboat that the St-Maurice Club had available for its members and guests. Members and guests would depart from the Grand-Piles pier and make their way near Lac-à-Beauce. From there, they would portage all the way to lac Wayagamac, where the club was located. A fire destroyed the club in 1907, leaving only the massive fireplace and chimney unharmed. A new club was built the following year, leaving the original fireplace and chimney intact, both of which still work to this day.”
