Walking out
Date: June 2015
Photographer: Ida Gilpin
Little boys walk out in hunters’ clothing. They carry a little wooden gun and a bag. When a little girl walks out she is dressed in traditional women’s garb including shawl, skirt and moccasins. She carries a cooking stick and a miniature axe to symbolize her role in maintaining the camp and preparing animals for food. She collects a load of small firewood to present to the elders when she returns to the teepee.
