Wemindji early days
Photographer: Russell Mueller
Date: mid 1960s
This is a view of Wemindji in 1962. Our town was known as known at the time as Paint Hills, around 5 or 6 years after the move from Old Factory. On the banks of the Maquatua River, we see, left to right, the Hudson Bay Company warehouse with its red door, the store, and the manager’s house at the river’s edge. The warehouse is still standing, one of Wemindji’s oldest buildings.
