The arrival of shopping centres was a game changer in the 1960s. One of the largest projects was Carrefour Laval. Its construction was announced on February 27, 1969, by Steinberg’s and Eaton’s. The shopping centre had some 150 stores and was built at the intersection of highways 15 and 440.
Opened in 1974, it has undergone a number of renovations and expansions since. Today, it has over 300 stores, restaurants and attractions. It is the largest closed shopping mall in the Greater Montreal area and the largest in Quebec with stores all located on the same level.
