Auguste Descarries lived in Paris where he studied at the École normale de musique for some time. He then left to study with the pianist Léon Conus and later with the French-born Russian composer Georges Catoire.
During his long stay in France, Descarries spent time with several Russian musicians, including Sergei Rachmaninoff.
Shortly before his return to Québec, Auguste Descarries gave his first public recital at the Conservatoire. He gave six others before his departure.
