Alfred LePailleur was born in Lachine on August 9, 1886. His father was the merchant Narcisse-Alfred (1857-1918) and his mother, Emma St-Denis (1864-1906).
Coming from a wealthy family, descendant of notary Alfred-Narcisse, Alfred decided to enter the orders and opted for the Communauté des Pères de Sainte-Croix (Congregation of Holy Cross).
At the age of 42, he left Canada for Chittagong where he was the first bishop to settle. He remained in Bengal until 1951 and died the year after his return.
