Death of notary LePailleur

Alfred-Narcisse LePailleur, born in Chateauguay in 1828, became a notary at the age of 25. He practised in his hometown for some thirty years and then moved to Lachine, where he worked until the end of his career. Well known in his community, his death in 1920 made the headlines.

NOTARIES IN MOURNING
Me A.-N. LEPAILLEUR, of Lachine, the country’s longest-practising notary (67 years), died last night at the age of 92. He was the father of Bishop LePailleur. (Details elsewhere).

Lachine,5.—We regret to announce the death of Mr A.-N. Le Pailleur, notary of this town, that took place yesterday evening at nine o’clock, after a two-day illness. The deceased, aged 92, was widely known, having practised his profession for nearly 67 years. He was the dean of the province of Quebec’s notaries.
Born in Chateauguay on January 18, 1828, he was admitted to the notarial profession on February 5, 1855.
After practising as a notary in his native parish for 36 years, he moved to Lachine in 1891.
The deceased is survived by his four sons, Bishop LePailleur, parish priest of Longue-Pointe; J.-W. and Armand, merchants in Lachine; and Charles, entrepreneur, alderman of the town of Saint-Laurent, and six daughters, Elmire, wife of Mr. J.-A. Descarries, C. R., former member of the National Assembly for the riding of Jacques-Cartier and former mayor of Lachine; Anna, wife of Mr A.-A. Joubert; Sister Dalton, Mother Superior of the Grey Nuns, on Guy Street; Sister Georges-Alfred, Mother Superior of the Sisters of Providence Convent in Sainte-Adèle; Sister Marie-Louise, of the Sisters of Providence; and Sister Marie de Nazareth, of the Notre-Dame Congregation in Sainte-Thérèse.
The deceased, who celebrated both his golden and diamond wedding anniversaries, had married Miss Philomène Dalton.
The funeral will take place on Monday morning at 9 a.m. in the parish church of Lachine.
