HMS Buffalo
Artist: Paul Deacon
The Australian artist Paul Deacon painted this illustration representing the HMS Buffalo Ship in the Mahurangi Bay, around 1840. This vessel transported the Lower Canadian patriots that were exiled in Australia.
The crossing of more than 5 months with unfavorable conditions, led them to the country where they would spend their next 5 years. During the years 1845 and 1846, many of these exiled men came back to their homes and families.
