The Châteauguay convent

Around 1840, the Sisters of the Congregation of Notre-Dame settled in the convent built along the Chateauguay River, next to the church of Saint-Joachim.
The numerous floods made the sisters fearful and damaged the building. Therefore, the decision was made in 1910 to build a new convent, somewhat more distant from the river. The nuns and their young students moved the following year.
When the convent-educated girls looked out the window, they could see Maison LePailleur on the opposite bank of the river.
