Armand was 14 years old when he left the family home in Châteauguay to study at the Collège de Montréal. The following year, in 1886, he founded the general store LePailleur et frères with his brothers Narcisse-Alfred and Joseph-Wilfred. The store was located on St. Joseph Street in Lachine.
He never returned to live in his hometown. In 1898, his eldest brother, Georges-Marie, celebrated his marriage to Emma Labelle.
The couple lived in Lachine until their death.
