The Loss of the SS Florizel
On February 23rd, 1918 the SS Florizel left St. John’s on an ill-fated journey. What was supposed to be a routine trip from St. John’s, Newfoundland to Halifax, Nova Scotia and then on to New York ended in tragedy and 93 souls were lost, 44 survived. The HM Wireless Station Mount Pearl, the current site of Admiralty House Communications Museum, received the SOS transmission for help from the vessel.
