Henry Sigalet (1899-1972) was a lively entrepreneur who greatly influenced the development of Lumby’s forest industry. In 1922, Henry Sigalet began hauling poles from Sugar Lake (approximately 61 km east of Lumby). By 1934, Henry had expanded his operations into Squaw Valley near Lumby. In 1940, he formed the H. Sigalet & Co. Ltd. Sawmill in Lumby. Henry became partners with Fred Kirkland and Oscar Neimi and formed Lumby Timber Co. in 1947. By 1948, most of the small mills owned by the three partners were shut down and consolidated into Lumby Timber operations. Lumby was a prosperous and bustling mill town!
