Phyllis Catt’s Ration Book
Lumby Historical Society Collection
Phyllis (Treen) Catt was issued a ration book shortly after the outbreak of World War II. Every family living in Lumby or on an outlying farm registered for a ration book at the local grocery store. Every family member, including children, received a ration book similar to this example.
Ration books were issued to ensure everyone received their fair share of necessities while also giving up goods for military use.
The ration books contained coupons for such things as meat, tea, coffee, sugar, butter and gasoline.
