Dairy Farming
Inglis Family Collection
Lumby’s rich loamy soil was ideal for growing crops to support dairy farming. Philip Charles “P.C.” Inglis arrived in Lumby in 1924 with his wife Phyllis and son Philip. P.C. is credited with introducing alfalfa seed to the Okanagan Valley.
P.C. purchased 120 acres from the Bessette estate east of Lumby, and it was here that he started the Dyffrn Dairy. The Dyffrn Dairy was the first family owned pasteurizing plant in the Okanagan. P.C. loved the 20 jersey cows that supplied the rich milk to the pasteurizing plant.
