Delivering Cream

Rosemary Deuling Collection
Goods sold from the farm such as milk, cream, butter and eggs were an important part of a Lumby pioneer farmer’s income. In the early days, there was no electricity or refrigeration on the farm. Most goods could only be stored in a cool place for a short time. Farmers relied on drivers such as Nels Griffiths to pick up and deliver their goods. Although Nels suffered from severe asthma, he could lift ten gallon cans full of cream up into the truck, even double-decking them at times!
