Importance of Horses in Farming

In Lumby’s early farming days, everything was done with horses.  Horses were used to plow, disc, harrow and float (floating was when heavy planks were spiked together and dragged over the ground to smooth the soil prior to seeding).  At harvest time, horses were used to cut and haul the hay to the homestead.
