Lumby Historians Collection
Louis Christien was born in St. Anicet, Quebec on June 14, 1835. At the age of 19, he came west to California in the early days of gold excitement. In 1862, he eventually made his way to Canada and finally settling in Lumby. It is said that Christien, together with his partner William Peon, discovered gold in Cherry Creek. Louis later took up land known as the Coldstream Meadows in Lumby. It was here that he discovered how important farming would become for the new community.
