KPH Photo Archive, Image # 00278, circa 1918
On Arbour Day one-room schools were cleaned and scrubbed by students and teacher. In this photo left to right: Fenton Gibbons, Hazel Hall, Harold Baxter (with rake), Elsie Baxter (tall girl), Arthur Linton (sitting), Edna Baxter and Vera Hall are cleaning up the Bayswater School yard.
Built in 1888, Bayswater School operated until the 1950’s. In 1923, there was a high spring freshet. Elsie Baxter and her friend Alberta Currie went into the school in a canoe to rescue the books.
