Ern was born in 1924 and he got his master’s in watchmaking and he worked in Germany for a while. I think he was the youngest of four boys in his family. He thought, “Now I think I’ll put my ad in the Swiss watchmakers journal that I am available as a watchmaker and I might like to move around.” He had replies from thirteen countries and one was Ireland and the furthest away was from Corner Brook, in Newfoundland. Never knew where Newfoundland was. Never had a clue. So he said, “Well, I’m going to go over there and try it.”
