When Maude Abbott presented the results of her research, she drew diagrams illustrating the conditions and symptoms under study. In this case, a defect of the ventricular septum has been caused by dextroposition of the aorta. The diagram shows the system of arteries and veins from the lungs to the heart, and then to the capillary beds of the rest of the blood system.
