Honorary medical degree, 1910

McGill University diploma. “Doctorem in Medicina” awarded to Maud Elizabeth Seymour Abbott by McGill University. The text on the diploma is in Latin. The lower left corner bears the red seal of McGill University, with several signatures to its right. The diploma is displayed in a narrow, simply decorated gold frame with a white mat.

In 1910, Maude Abbott received unexpected and unhoped-for recognition from McGill University for the quality of her scientific work, in the form of an honorary medical degree. Her diploma says “M.D., C.M.”, which comes from the Latin Medicinae Doctorem et Chirurgiae Magistrum, meaning Doctor of Medicine and Master of Surgery.
