The Priory in 1875

Black and white photograph of a two-storey house surrounded by trees in summer. It is made of grey brick with a large gallery. The upper storey has five windows with dark shutters and there are two chimneys on the roof. The side section of the house is slightly set back and has only one storey. Two women are standing in front of the side section, a man is sitting on the stairs and another is in the yard in front of the house. Below the photo, “The Priory” is written in black ink. The photograph is displayed in a simple narrow wooden frame with a white mat.

The Priory, home of Reverend William Abbott and Frances Mary Smith, stood on the hill on the east side of the North River in St. Andrews. Built around 1826, the family lived there until 1865. The building was destroyed by fire in 1912.
