Local business owners sponsored many seasonal sports teams in the Kirkland Lake area, including men’s wear merchant Joe Dash.

Bat Boy – Bob Plager

The community is the hometown of many former NHLers, with some players returning in the off-season to work or play. The last names of “Hillman” and “Plager” were known as much for playing ball as they were for hockey.
