If an image can tell a thousand stories, this one certainly tells a few! First of all, this is one of the beautifully designed and printed posters advertising concerts at The New Penelope. It was designed and printed in New York City by designer Arthur Taxier with Liberty Graphics Ltd. The company was short-lived in the late 1960s, creating concert posters for Café Au Go-Go in New York City.
Presumably, Gary had heard of the poster design service used by the Café Au Go-Go and decided to hire them to design this poster.
This poster advertises The New Penelope concerts from mid-May to early September 1967. It would have been displayed most of spring and summer 1967 in the club, the walls of Montreal record stores, head shops or vacant buildings. In this way, it would have been worth the extra investment by Gary to have such a nice quality poster printed in New York City.
