From Doorman to Collector

Here, we see Allan Youster standing in front of a Fugs poster he loaned ARCMTL for its exhibit of concert posters presented at the 2015 Pop Montreal International Music Festival.

Allan Youster has been a mainstay in the audience at local concerts for decades in Montreal. He spent part of the late 1960s working the door at legendary local concert venue The New Penelope, witnessing performances by such figures as Muddy Waters, The Fugs, Jesse Winchester and Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention.

Through the years, he gathered a personal collection made of concert posters, flyers and other ephemera related to The New Penelope which was donated to ARCMTL.
