This image is of a The Mothers of Invention concert at The New Penelope on Sherbrooke Street in January 1967. Frank Zappa stands with his guitar on the right.

François Dallegret, the designer of the interior of this New Penelope, commissioned the photograph. The photographer, Jeremy Taylor, documented the event, as well as the layout of the space Dallegret designed. Dallegret was present at the concert himself, and appears in some other photos of this series. Thanks to these photos, Dallegret participated in documenting this extraordinary concert and concert venue.
